I recently picked up the Ulta Instant Nail Polish Remover on a whim, whilst browsing the nail section at Ulta. I haven’t tried one of these sponge polish removers in years… I remember having one as a young teen and using it until it quite literally dried out (and turned purple – yuck). I thought, “Why not? I’ll give it a go!” and into my basket it went.
Well? The verdict is in, and I love it. I had forgotten how convenient these little pots are, and it’s quite nice to not have to use a ton of cotton pads. Just a quick couple of swipes into the hole in the middle and my nail polish was completely off, except for my thumb which was at quite a weird angle and therefore needed the little “brush wand” to help it along the way. I don’t think it’s just my thumb, for the record. I think all thumbs will struggle with this type of remover pot. Also, I took one for the team and attempted to remove my pedicure with this; it’s not easy, I wouldn’t recommend. I think that’s what the wand is for.
I haven’t tried other brands so I don’t know how this stacks up to others, but I can definitely recommend this one. Give it a go next time you’re at Ulta, and if you are at another store and they have “their” brand, try it out!
Let me know if there is one in particular that is your favorite… but until I find a better one this will be a regular in my medicine cabinet. At $3.99 it's a bargain for something that works so well.
Hooray for an easy nail polish remover! Nothing is more curse-worthy than a nail polish remover that refuses to remove!
Ingredients:
Acetone, Propylene Carbonate, Aqua, Dimethyl Glutarate, Deimethyl Adipate, Dimethyl Succinate, Glycerin, Fragrance, Denatonium Benzoate, Benzophenone-1, Gelatin, FD&C Yellow 11.
I've always been concerned that these formulas will leave my hands feeling really oily. I tried a Nivea one before and it was hopeless. I think I'll give this one a shot though.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that the rite aid brand is really good (via nouveau cheap's blog) I haven't tried it though! I still use 100% acetone works the best, especially on glitter!

I Didn't know they still made these! I used one by Sally Hanson in my Spice Girls obsession era (aka lots of glitter!). I will def have to pic one up, as they're great for soaking off stubborn polishes.

DeleteI have the Maybelline Express Remover and it's just amazing! If you get the chance to try it then absolutely do. It smells good and removes polish really easily.

ReplyDeleteThe only thing I don't like about this method of nail polish remover is the fact that the product gets all over your fingers. I don't know if I have super absorbent fingers or what, but no matter how many times I wash my hands after using these products, I can always smell (or taste, if I'm eating a finger food) it on my hands for hours.
ReplyDeleteBut, that said, it's definitely the most efficient way to do it and I still use this product, ha. And your little tracker jacker is adorable.
LOL! "Super absorbent fingers". My trick is I take off my nail polish right before I take a shower/wash my hair. I find the good scrubbing in the shower with shampoo and stuff takes all the after-scent away!

Definitely try the Up & Up (Target brand) one! It has little bristles rather than a sponge, and took my glitter nail polish off in just a few swipes! I tried a sponge one of a different brand before, and this one is way more efficient, though there is still the problem that you can't use it for your feet, unfortunately.

I noticed that when it was new it worked really well, but as time goes on and I refill it with polish remover, it doesn't work as well. I think all of the polish it removes stays in the container and affects the sponge. But for the first month or so, it worked great. I'll definitely repurchase in the future!
ReplyDeleteThe Target one is really good (like someone else mentioned) and the Walgreens brand one (studio 35 I think??) is one of my faves. I also use a makeup sponge for my nail polish remover because they do an amazing job at removing nail polish and last for multiple uses unlike cotton pads/balls -- totally unwasteful :)

I've used the sephora One and now i'm using the KIKO one that i like better, it's cheaper and has no weird nail polish removers smell.
