Mango. Papaya. Kiwi.
Pineapple.
Sounds amazing right? It is.
This is a tiny little shampoo that I picked up during my last Lush haul based on the scent alone.
It’s not made for my hair type (dry) and I wasn’t exactly in the market for a
new shampoo (I’m having a love affair with the TIGI S-Factor Shampoo and Conditioner)
but I gave it a sniff and knew it had to be mine. I compromised with myself by
purchasing the smallest size available, the 3.3 oz. It cost me $9.95, and I
thought that if it was terrible stripping I would pass it on to Blair, my
little Juicy-star (get it!?). Her hair isn’t as dry as mine, you see.
I packed this with me on my
beach vacation, thinking that its scent would be perfect for hot summer days.
This shampoo is bursting with fruity freshness; it smells like summer to me. I
also packed Miss S-Factor Shampoo in case this one was terrible, but guess
what? I haven’t used the S-Factor one once.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the
S-Factor one is still my favorite - my go-to if you will. It’s gorgeous and
smoothing and smells of peaches and cream… it’s won such a fierce place in my
heart, but this little Juicy shampoo is giving it a run for its money. The
fruit juices mentioned above are slightly acidic, which works to mop up oil and
grime produced by the scalp. It has sea salt for volume and seaweed extract to
soften, and is meant to “leave your hair squeaky clean, with unbelievable shine
and touchably soft tresses.”
Something interesting came
into my mind today as I was using this stuff. I was happily lathering up my
hair and deeply breathing in this glorious scent when the thought, “you only
like it cause its small” crossed my mind. That gave me pause, and I realized
that I was right. “I’m a genius!” I thought. I had purchased the smallest
bottle of this, and once I realized how much I loved it I started cherishing
it, and really enjoying each and every moment I used it. That’s the way using
beauty products should always be, but let’s be honest – it’s not always. More
often than not it can feel like a sort of chore. So I’m actually very happy that
I purchased the tiny size, because I don’t even need to be using this every
day, and it makes me enjoy it more.
This product does leave my
hair “squeaky clean” like it claims, which I know is not “good” for your hair, but it doesn’t feel stripped. You
definitely need to follow this up
with a conditioner, but I do that anyway so it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. I just used my usual S-Factor conditioner. My
hair feels soft, and I think this product has helped my curls come out a bit
more, probably due to the sea salt, as seen in this post. But, as you can
probably guess, my favorite part is the scent. It doesn’t just rinse out and disappear;
my whole bathroom smells of this for hours after my shower. As my 10-year-old
sister asked, “why in the world does the bathroom smell like a Key Lime pie?”
And it does, oddly enough. We had Key Lime pie for dessert that night, and sure
enough, they smell the same. They are sisters. Key Lime pie and Juicy shampoo, Sisters from another Mister. Or however that saying goes.
Do I recommend this? Yes.
Will I repurchase it? Yes, the small size. Will I repurchase a huge gigantic
size and use it forever and ever? No, but only because it’s not even meant for
my hair type. It’s targeted for oily-haired gals, so if that’s what you have
then you need to try this! And if you are dry-haired, like me, you should still
try a small size. It’s the perfect summer shampoo! This would also be the
perfect “I’ve needed to wash my hair for well over a day and been slacking and
it needs a really good, deep clean” or a “I have so much hairspray/dry
shampoo/product in my hair and it needs a really good, deep clean” shampoo. I like!

ooh i need to try this! my favourite shampoo from lush is the fairtrade honey one, it smells amazing but i gave up repurchasing it once i saw it had SLS in it - such a shame, it made my hair smell lovely! natasha xo
ReplyDeletehttp://cloudsandcuticleoil.blogspot.co.uk/
ooh I haven't tried that!! I love honey though, maybe I should!
DeleteI LOVE this shampoo. However, after using it for a while, I noticed a ton of buildup. I don't know why, but it really made my scalp, for lack of a better word, angry lol. I started using the Clear shampoo for colored hair, as I Love Juicy also made my highlights fade a bit. I still use it every now and then because the scent is so nice :) I do love the Clear shampoo because it keeps my scalp at bay.
ReplyDeleteooh that's not good that it irritated your scalp cause I have a finicky scalp too! I haven't noticed anything bad but I'll keep an eye out. And I love Clear!
DeleteLooks like amazing shampoo, cant wait to try it.

I have never tried this product, but it sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteNothing ever smells good to me IN the Lush store. I finally bought something that was raved about and when I got it home I loved it. But the mixture of smells in the store isn't good. Maybe because my store is so small. I also don't understand how these products are marketed and sold as natural but the ingredients like SLS aren't good for you... I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteI had used I love juicy regularly (which was probably a mistake) on my hair for about half a year. I loved the smell but I didn't realize that it stripped my hair because I thought I needed the shampoo because I have quite oily hair. After half a year, I bought a big bottle. What logically happened was that it suddenly didn't work for me anymore. My hair got greasier quicker, I got an itchy scalp and some dandruff. Then I decided to change shampoo and it helped. It might be that I used it too frequently, I'm gonna try using it once a month or so as a cleansing shampoo but for now it's just gonna clean my make-up brushes...
ReplyDeleteBy the way- I have to add- that the smell is AMAZING and it's one of the only shampoos that gets rid of the smell of cigarette smoke (horrible for a non-smoker!) after a night out!!!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE this shampoo too. But I have oily hair and after using it for about half a year my scalp started to get very dry and now I have dandruff :/ Can't use it anymore. But I'm hoping as soon as my scalp is getting back to normal I can use it again (not that often though) :p

ReplyDeleteI really want to try this! The scent sounds amazing!

I 100% agree with you on loving it because it is small. I am the same way. Some products are just meant to be, and stay, special treats! I will be trying this yummy shampoo soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel like this smells like a strong bathroom type cleaner smell when used. Not sure if it's because of the citrus or what I love the affect on my hair but I don't like the smell and I love citrus.
ReplyDeletereally?? I don't smell any citrus in mine - but Lush is know for having different "batches" of the same product smell differently, so I wouldn't be surprised if yours was different!
DeleteI used to love Lush until I read the ingredients. They're really not as healthy and natural as they market to be. Sulfates are getting a lot of criticism lately, and it's the first ingredient in this shampoo. Carrageenan is linked to serious health issues. And then the alcohol and parabens... It such a shame that they mix some great ingredients with all these terrible ones! There are some really great products from Lush, but it's ones like these I try to avoid. (Especially because I have sensitive skin.)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHey, I work at Lush and we're in the process of actually reformulating all of our products to have no added preservatives and eliminating parabens. The only two parabens we use now are propylparaben and methylparaben which is what keeps water based and oil based products from growing bacteria and having a shelf life. They are safe parabens that are getting thrown in the 'cancer-causing' craze...but would we really wanna harm you? You wouldn't exactly come back for more lol! Sulfates aren't exactly the best for color treated hair...but it's the cleansing agent. So you can wash your hair with tons of essential oils, but it's not cleaning your hair. Our shampoo called Blousy is one of our relatively new shampoos that we launced Black Friday 2012 and its banana based with not as much SLS in it and its gentler on color treated hair. I went to cosmetology school and know the importance of maintaining the hair. Another shampoo to try if parabens are an issue would be my daily shampoo called Fair Trade Honey, also with a lower SLS content. It pairs really well with the American Cream Conditioner. I work in NY but feel free to email me or such if you have questions, I'd love to change your mind about us! :)
DeleteI have used 'I Love Juicy' for a long time- but you definitely can't use it for extended periods! It's always going to be in my hair care collection though! Smells amazing, leaves hair fresh and is all round a great product!!
ReplyDeleteGreat review Elle!! Your blog is one of my new must-reads!! x
I need to go to Lush. I've never been (gasp!). As a beauty fanatic I can't believe I've never gone (shame!).

You're making me want to go to Lush more and more every post you write! I usually don't go because the last few times I used their products I broke out pretty bad so I kinda... drifted away, always lusting over the yummy smelling products. You have a gift for making products sound delicious and effective haha

I have a question Elle... who are YOUR favourite blogs to follow? Love this blog so much by the way.
ReplyDeletexo Alysha
Sometimes products in smaller sizes are just perfect. There are so many things I own that I will probably never use up (or feel like I have to use it every day to use it up) because they're just too big.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!

What is your opinion on makeup brushes? Which ones do you like from what brands, etc.?
ReplyDeletewww.meganandpearls.com
Key lime pie has probably had the wrong impression on me since the first time I tried it! Haha :) Anyway, I love how you write such detailed reviews and how you include the ingredients of the product! I really want to try this, but sadly, I don't have a Lush within my state. :( I enjoyed your review, please have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of I Love Juicy Shampoo, but stopped using it because I wanted to try new shampoos. Well, I think I may have to re-order this one, the description you gave was bang-on (JellyBean too, key lime pie! Of course!) Thanks for the reminder of a great product!

ReplyDeleteElle you should really try the Curly Wurly Shampoo!!! I have wavy hair like yours when it air dries and that shampoo has made my waves look like I just spent the day at the beach. Its a thicker consistency than most other shampoos at lush, which turns some people off, but it's well worth it to get great wave/curl without using heat!! I swear by it for the summer.
ReplyDeleteA great lush conditioner to use is Happy Happy Joy Joy! Like I said I have hair that's on the dry side and wavy, like yours. The combination of Curly Wurly and Happy Happy Joy Joy has been my holy grail for the summer.
I've been buying all my products in the smallest size possible lately, I find I enjoy using them more and know I won't get sick of it, like I would with the larger size products.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait till it's summer here (Australia) to use it. Hope it will be a good shampoo to use after being in the pool all day.
I haven't tried this, but I do tend to let my hair go a bit long sometimes with out a wash, so maybe I'll pick up a bitty one the next time I pass by lush.

This sounds pretty good. But One must keep some of the important things about Hair before using any Hair item.
ReplyDeleteIf our hair is oily, the glands blocked the scalp hole with dust, therefore causing scalp problem like dandruff, scalp psoriasis and the
ReplyDeleteoily hair. Sometime it creates an uneasy situation for us. The other problem of oily hair is that sometime smell bed which is embarrassing for us.
