Tuesday Tea with Me: Tea Party is OPEN!

Starting right now (11am PST), and running for the next hour, I will be answering questions and giving advice to any comments left below (on this post). Try to limit your comment to one question. First come, first served, and I will try to answer them as best I can!

Make sure to skim through last week's questions before deciding what to ask... one question per person please! Last week I got a lot of repeat questions so if you read through those you can get lots of answers and then ask me one that you haven't seen me answer yet :)

Just like last week it will be first come, first served. I will try to answer them as best I can!

Make sure you click that little "Join this site" button on my sidebar, as shown here, in order to be able to comment! :) Talk to you soon!

  1. Hi Elle,

Love the new Tuesday Tea format. My question is: Are you an outdoor person or an indoor person?

    1. I would definitely say that I am an indoor person overall, but I don't mind the outdoors for certain things! I like hiking, and horseback riding, and going to the beach. I can't say that I'm the biggest camper though... I like my hot showers and warm beds! :)

  2. Hi Elle, I was wondering if you had any recommendations of drugstore foundations, for very dry, eczema, sensitive skin.

So far I have tried the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup, Revlon ColorStay Foundation, Loreal Paris BB Cream, and the Almay Smart Shade CC Cream.
None of the products give me a flawless, full coverage face that I want. Most of them make my face look cakey and worse.

    Thank You!

    1. I would recommend the Revlon colorstay whipped creme foundation or the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Treatment Makeup! Both of those work for me and I have dry and sensitive skin :) You just have to remember to apply a moisturizer right before applying the foundation since your skin is dry!

    1. That is one of the sweetest things that I have ever heard!! My advice would be to always be super gentle with her, and she will grow up to be a gentle adult :) I always carried Pinecone around and cuddled him and was overall super sweet to him and he has grown up to be the nicest cat to other people. He always greets my guests and lets them pet him, and that has not always been the case for other cats that I have had! And let her sleep with you and be with you as much as she wants, even if she gets annoying! Pinecone meows a lot at night but I don't lock him out of my room because he likes to be inside with me :)

I'll check out that book! Thank you!

If I could choose one person to meet in this live, it would be you. I realy want to save for a flight to LA and come to a meetup. It would meen everything to me.

    1. hmm... sometimes I don't like to be in new situations. If I'm going to have to go somewhere alone that I have never been I will get anxiety and won't want to go! It's kind of weird, because other times I don't mind it at all... it just hits me every now and then.

    2. Hiii Elle,

Do you know any really cheap good products from the drugstore, please reply. I know I'm late but please?

  6. Hey Elle,
I am in the market for a new serum that brightens and lightens the skin (I have hyper pigmentation). I have been eyeing down the Christian Dior Diorsnow serum, however, since it is so expensive I was wondering what your opinion on this product was? Also, is there a comparable/better product out there? I don't mind spending the money, but I want to see results.

    1. I just went to ULTA asking for something similar to fade my acne scars and the lady was blunt, saying that there isn't really anything. I don't know if this advice will work for hyper pigmentation, but she said that keeping the skin clean so that future problems (in my case, breakouts) don't happen. I think that makes sense, so that's what I'm trying and I'm just using drugstore skincare stuff. I've also heard and seen in some high-end skincare products that are marketed towards skin-tone-evening that it's really just sunscreen, so maybe try that!

      Delete
    2. I have also heard that the Diorsnow serum is very good, but I have never tried it. I would definitely recommend getting some sort of chemical exfoliater to use hand in hand with whatever serum you get. I really love the Cane & Austin ones that I have reviewed here on this blog - they are fantastic! They will work to smooth away the skin on top so that the serum can go ever deeper and work even better. If you try the diorsnow one let me know! I am thinking about trying it as well.

      Delete
    3. If you can get your hands on Indeed Labs Petabright and use it AM and PM you will totally see a difference. I had serious cystic acne and it really improved my scars and the hyper pigmentation that some of the blemishes left! I know Duane Reade here in NYC has started selling it, but I originially got it in London at Boots...

    4. The Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum works great. It's a midrange price, about 45. Sometimes you have to spend a bit. Just look out for good ingredients though. Soy, licorice, ascorbic acid (vitamin c), are all good for lightening hyperpigmentation. I don't know what the Ulta girl was talking about.

      Delete
    5. I don't have severe hyper-pigmentation, but I do have several acne scars. What cleared them up was Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion by The Body Shop. It works wonders!!! I got mine at Ulta and it's fairly inexpensive at $20 a bottle I think. The bottle looks tiny, but it lasted me a couple of months. When I first tried it, I was disappointed because I didn't notice a difference right away. So don't lose hope when you don't see much of a difference the first week. After a couple of weeks my acne scars were gone!!! Now I get so many compliments on my skin, and I never go a night without it!

  7. Hey Elle!

I have this short shoulder Chanel cambon bag which I NEVER use anymore because it's super impractical.. Have any ideas on how I can make it into a satchel?? I recently called Chanel boutiques to ask if they sell straps but they don't because they don't want to impair the design :(

    Lots of love xo

    3. Maybe you could find a chain strap of some sort? I think something like the straps on the Rebecca minkoff mini mac bags might look nice

      Delete
    4. I agree, i think you may opt for chain strap from others brands. I'm not very familiar with designer bags so maybe some of the sisters here can give some recommendation for you. :) You get to choose your strap so that's pretty cool! Cuz it fits your personality well that way. :)

  10. Hi Elle!! What are the ingredients we should avoid in skincare products?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. it all depends on your skin and what you are sensitive to, but I like to stay away from Bismuth Oxychloride (found in lots of mineral foundations and products with glitter), Silicone, and Mineral Oil in products that are going to be sitting on my skin (like moisturizers or foundations). There are lots of websites that you can research ingredients on and find out which other ones are icky. Just google "bad cosmetic ingredients"

      Delete
    2. I'm not Elle, but avoid sulfates. They make products foam up. But if you have acne prone skin, they'll make it worse. They alkaline the skin and make it a breeding ground for bacteria. Keep your skin's pH acidic by using non foaming cleansers. <3

  15. how do you advise promoting your blog without "spamming"?
    stylesista.blogspot.com

    ^^ is this spamming?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would maybe try to advertise on other people's blog that are about the same level in popularity as yours. A lot of people will "cross promote" but linking each others blog in each other's sidebars so you can maybe get some of their readers to check you out. And I don't think that is spamming - just because everyone else is doing it here too! :)

I'm not sure whether it's the shampoo making my hair fluffy that I don't like, or my conditioner (Joico KPak) making my hair feel lank that I don't like.
I also bought the Kerastase nectar thermique on your recommendation which I love so thank you!

  60. Hey, Elle!
My name is Ioana and I am from Romania. I am so excited to join this tea party, because I am a huge fan of yours and you are such an amazing person and an inspiration for all of us. I want to ask you some questions:
    1. Who is your beauty inspiration?
    2. How did you come up with the idea for your book?
    3. How do you deal with stress?
    4. Do you like Jane Austen's books? If yes, what books which were written by her have you read?
    5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years, professionally speaking?

  64. Hey Elle! :)
I don't actually have a question but instead a suggestion for you! I know in several of your videos you've talked about the mascara primers making your lashes gray.. have you tried Lancome's CILS Booster XL? I use it and it really makes my lashes longer and I've noticed significantly less eyelash loss. And my lashes are still very black. I apply the mascara (fyi I use the hypnose star and i love it) while the booster is still wet.
Love you and your videos! :)

  70. Hey Elle! I was wondering what you would recommend I do to make these little bumps I have on my cheeks go away. They aren't acne, they're just these little skin colored bumps! They aren't too noticeable, but do you have any idea as to what I can do to get rid of them?

  71. Hey Elle!
First off, LOVE the new blog! I have a question and I'm hoping you could help. I wash my hair every other day, but the day after I wash my hair, it's super duper greasy on my roots. Even with dry shampoo it still looks greasy. I do not put conditioner on my roots and I make sure to spend extra time rinsing shampoo out. Do you know why this is happening or how I can fix it?
    Thank you so much (:

  73. No question here. Just wanted to say that I'm a licensed attorney with three professional degrees who teaches and I still get giddy whenever I see one of your vids in my sub box! lol.

Don't let others dictate the direction of your blog/videos and don't allow them to diminish your successes by attributing it to an affluent upbringing. You're a fantastic young woman and I hope you surround yourself with people who often remind you of this. Some of the despicable comments online make me cringe.

    Keep up the good work!

  89. Hey Elle,

I am a teenager and a huge fan of yours. I was wondering if I was going to start a youtube channel how would I be noticed? Is it hard to keep up? How were the bullying situations. I am comfortable with being in front of a camera and with myself but the scariest thing for me is what people are going to think of me and my friends. Please please please answer me. I would really appreciate and even if you just say hi you will literally make the rest of my life. You are a huge inspirtation and I really hope I would be able to meet you one day :)

  92. Elle, do you mind extending this slot a little while? Because just reading the earlier questions will take a long time to get to the bottom.

question: Would you dedicate a special blog post on intimate care here? hair removal, cleanser, or any special products for our lady down there that are safe and great for us.

I think that will be a great topic to discuss together on here. I feel like this is a secret garden for us girls. I just love this blog so much!
